Congressman Joe Baca and Representative Connie Mack Express Merger Support
In filings with the Federal Communication Commission, Congressman Joe Baca, and Representative Mack have both expressed support for the proposed merger between Sirius and XM Satellite Radio.
In his letter he stated, “I support the merger between Sirius and XM satellite Radio. In evaluating this specific industry and technology, I find that the merger will not only maintain an advanced technological innovation, it will bolster the industry thereby strengthening our economy. More families and individuals will have an opportunity to access satellite radio.”
The Mack letter stated, “In particular, I am encouraged by the surge of competition in the audio entertainment industry that has been spurred by new technologies such as MP3 players, Internet radio, satellite radio, and music enabled cell phones. The proposed merger will enable satellite radio to become a stronger competitor and will drive all other players in the market, including terrestrial radio, to focus on making their services even more appealing to consumers.”
Position – Long Sirius, Long XM
I agree with your letter. The merger between Siri and XMSR should be approved. It would not be a monopoly. They have alot of competition as technology has really changed since they rec’d their licenses.
